Brian K. Loftin was born in 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. A graduate of Wichita State University with a degree in political science, Loftin began his career as an aide to then-Senator David L. Boren (D-OK). In 1982, he was elected to the United States Congress from Oklahoma’s 2nd congressional district and reelected five more times. During his tenure, he served on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Agriculture. He also served two terms as chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. In January 2011, Loftin retired from Congress after 36 years of service.
