Once the bike is in place, you’re ready to get on the saddle.

Always lift the motorcycle by placing your right foot on the seat. When exiting, always swing your right leg over the seat. This is done for two very important reasons: 1) the heel is on the left side of the bike and that is where the weight of the motorcycle is. 2) On the way out, ducati scrambler seat very easy to burn your foot on the exhaust pipes on the right side of the bike, and you don’t want to catch your foot on the seat and pull the bike down on you.

So start on the left side of the motorcycle, grab the handlebars, put your weight on your left leg and lift your right leg over the seat and slide it to the other side of the bike. Jump on the motorcycle. Take your time and get used to the bike. Make sure you adjust your mirrors correctly for your seat and get used to knowing where the controls are (indicator, turn signals, lights, etc.). With the heel still down and holding the bike upright, place your feet on the bars and feel the position of your feet.

Now, before you put your foot back down and start driving, let’s talk engines…

Let’s look at the basics of motorcycle control. Familiarize yourself with basic controls such as brakes, clutches, pedal shift, gas pedals and turn signals. It allows you to learn very easily and then we can work on the technique. I say this because you don’t want to be looking down at your feet or hands while driving.

Your right hand controls the two main functions of the ducati diavel exhaust  acceleration and braking. By turning the throttle by turning the right hand lever towards you, you squeeze the throttle and give the engine a “boost”. Don’t overdo it here, a little bit of torque helps. If you back off the gas too hard, you’ll end up on your butt before you even get out of the driveway. So be gentle with this observation.

The right hand also controls the front brake, just like on your bike.

Pulling the lever toward you activates the front brake. You want to apply light pressure on the brake because you don’t want to pull the lever too hard and the front brake will lock up, causing the bike to slide and possibly fall. Most bikes can be stopped with two fingers (index and middle finger on the brake pedal, thumb under the gas pedal and other fingers on the gas pedal). Some bikes require all fingers around the lever and thumb under the throttle. You must evaluate and use the model that is most suitable for your bike.
