Date:

  • Chamunda Devi Mandir or Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham is located just 19 km. from the city of Palampur in Dharamshala Tehsil of the Kangra district of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This temple is dedicated to Maa Chamunda, another avatar of Maa Durga. Here, devotees offer prayers and worship to Devi, as well as offering offerings to their ancestors. About 400 years ago, a king and a brahmin priest prayed to Devi Chamunda for permission to move the temple of Padar Chamunda Devi to an easily accessible location.
  • According to legend, Chamunda Devi Temple is one of the 51 Shaktipith.
  • The ancient idol is surrounded by statues of Lord Bhairava and Lord Hanuman, two deities said to be guardians of the goddess Chamunda.
